So you’re allowed to do that — sculpt in both directions at once? And I can have it all at once and nothing will happen to me? And what if it doesn’t work out and I waste my time? This was an experiment with form and a work with the inner fear of doing something wrong, of ruining what I had begun. I watched my thoughts and went into them on purpose. Scared to split the vase in two — I split it; scared to make a hole — I make it; scared to scratch the surface — I scratch it; scared to add too much — so I add. Having sorted out the form and texture, I decided to continue working with my fears while glazing. I mixed in brightness, a bubbling ocean, changing pigments and glazes layer by layer. The result was acceptance of not knowing and trust in the outcome — whatever happened was meant to be.
